The Test

4 Mar

The author of this hymn was so depressed that he was going to drown himself but a fog prevented him from finding the river.  The divorce I am going through did not make me want to kill myself, although I must admit the thought entered my mind after I read what my wife wrote about me in the answers to her discovery questions.  I am happy to say that it is a test that I passed and believe that my faith and trust in God is stronger as a result.  Now the test is……can I be kind to the person who hurt me.  I think I will past this next test since it is far easier for me to be kind to people than it is to stand up for myself…….make sense?

God moves in a mysterious way
His wonders to perform;
He plants His footsteps in the sea
And rides upon the storm.

Deep in unfathomable mines
Of never failing skill
He treasures up His bright designs
And works His sovereign will.

Ye fearful saints, fresh courage take;
The clouds ye so much dread
Are big with mercy and shall break
In blessings on your head.

Judge not the Lord by feeble sense,
But trust Him for His grace;
Behind a frowning providence
He hides a smiling face.

His purposes will ripen fast,
Unfolding every hour;
The bud may have a bitter taste,
But sweet will be the flower.

Blind unbelief is sure to err
And scan His work in vain;
God is His own interpreter,
And He will make it plain.
